12/12/2023 0 Comments Psi exams ohioIf you'd like to touch base about how you are pursuing a resolution with NCARB outside of this forum, don't hesitate to email me: I would be happy to share what I've heard back from NCARB and eager to learn what you've heard as well.Įven after discussing the concerns in the ARE 5.0 exam administration with the Secretary of the Board at NCARB, my experience remains a complete & utter disaster. In closing, I appreciate you acknowledging and sharing that you have experienced issues with the testing facitlity. Further, the delays to re-test because of the fault of NCARB not ensuring the exams are capable of running on computers where it is offered is inexcusable from a professional association.Īre you aware of the 75% policy that attempts to mitigate the technical difficulties that seem to be all too common at their testing centers? It can be found on page 34 of this PDF: Asking candidates pursuing licensure to have to navigate all this nonsense during and after the exams is simply unacceptable the time and resources we put into preparing for an exam that NCARB and PSI cannot fairly administer is a problem. Ultimately NCARB ought to be held accountable for failing to audit its exam centers to make sure the equipment can load its exams. I have had back-to-back issues with a PSI center as well (where the computer freezes up during case studies while the clock continues to run, which is nothing shy of nerve-racking after you've been testing for 3 plus hours). Either go back to Prometric or find a new company. I do not think NCARB should continue with PSI. I am going to try a different center for the next exam, but talking to the other ARE exam participant there before we went in, the one I was at was "one of the better ones" and I think that speaks volumes. The system froze several times while trying to open the case studies to where I was trying my hardest to read blurry lines and answer the questions as time ticked away. Finally their computers could not load the case study sets. 10 or 15 minutes may not seem like much but in ARE test taking time that is several questions that might not have enough time to answer. The staff memeber had been unable to assist them and me on that time change. Once it got back up and running sure enough like the other person my clock had continued to run while I had waited for help. Then the program froze, went white and kicked me out of the test again around question 35. I had not paid attention so I made to sure to keep a better eye on it. When I got back on I heard the other NCARB person say that their time had still be running while it had frozen. I and several others had to wait more than 20 minutes before it was back up an running again. Within 6 questions my computer froze, kicked me out of the test and left me on a blank white screen. They had to move my station from the original one due to computer issues. It was a very distracting, unpleasent and unprofessional place to take a test in.įinally once they got the computers up they got a group of us into the testing space (only myself and one other person was for NCARB). You could hear every conversation outside in the waiting room even with the noise cancelling headphones on. The keyboards were dusty and dirty and the screens were very small. The desks that we sat at were folding lawn desks with a flimsy board tapped between each station. The center was dirty and outdated (especially the computer systems). I did not actually sit down at the desk to take the exam till more than 30 minutes after my test was to start. That is when they realized that the whole office (all computers) had shut down and needed to be booted up. They did not arrive till about 10 minutes before my test was to start at 9am. PSI themselves say you should arrive 30 minutes early. The staff memeber was late to opening up the exam center. I never thought I would say I miss Prometric but I do. The whole experience in comparision with Prometric who I have had prior exams with was terrible.
